Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is being utilized for disaster response, in the Philippines.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has enlisted the services of a company to assist the Philippine government in leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) for gathering and disseminating information in times of disasters.

"It has been acknowledged as successful through its utilization by the government and private entities as well as media establishments in Japan " stated JICA regarding the collaboration between JICA and Spectee to develop a customized version of Spectee Pro for the Philippines, in cooperationwith DICT.

Spectee Pro is a cutting edge Crisis Management Information System that harnesses AI technology to swiftly analyze images and language on social media platforms, for insights.

"Spectees chief operating officer, Negoro Satoshi expressed confidence in the ability of our AI Disaster & Crisis Management Solution 'Spectee Pro' to enhance the resilience of the Philippines in light of rising disasters due to climate change emphasizing our commitment to ensuring the success of this project for a promising future, for both the Philippines and Japan."

On the 24th of September officials from JICA, DICT and Spectee came together to sign a partnership agreement. This agreement aims to provide government offices with access, to Spectee Pro software.

For a time period Spectee Pro will be given at no cost to around 80 government agencies cities like Metro Manila, Legazpi City in Albay Tagbiliran in Bohol, Tacloban City in Leyte, CebubCity as well, as Davao City.

JICA mentioned that aside from training sessions and simulations, in place for system enhancements to be beneficial to end users; there will also be feedback mechanisms that consider real world conditions.

The Philippines has maintained the world risk index for the third consecutive year as stated in the World Risk Report 2024 released in September among the 193 countries listed.
