India's Bharti Airtel posts bigger Q2 profit, boosted by higher tariffs
During the quarter Bharti Airtel experienced a one time loss of 8,540 million rupees due to a foreign exchange loss, by one of its units caused by currency devaluation.
Airtel significantly outperformed its competitors in terms of revenue per user (ARPU) a crucial indicator for telecom companies as it increased by 10% reaching 233 rupees, in sequential growth.
During that timeframe the price exceeds Jios 195 rupees, which is owned by Reliance Industries.
In June of this year. A rare move after three years. All major Indian mobile service providers such, as Jio and Bharti Airtel decided to raise their prices to make up for the significant investments made in advancing 5g technology.
The companies refrained from increasing tariffs since 2021. Instead focused their investments in enhancing infrastructure and are now shifting their focus from intense market competition to improving profitability.
In the weeks or so Jio saw a 23 percent increase in earnings due, to price adjustments while Vodafone Idea has not yet released their financial results.
In the quarter ending on September 30th the number of Bharti Airtels customers decreased by 0. 70 % To 407 million mainly due to customers moving to affordable options following an increase, in tariffs.
In the quarter the company saw a 12 percent increase in revenue, to 41473 billion rupees with total expenses also rising by the same percentage.
The company has also named Shashwat Sharma as its new CEO starting from January 1st of 2026.
Bhart Airtels shares remained stable before the announcement of their results.
