Coal, Iron production shows outstanding growth during FY24-25, other metal sectors rises 1.2%
In the year 2024–2025 there was an uptick, in the production of essential minerals in the country compared to the previous peak in 2023–2024. As per data, from the Ministry of Coal Mines and Renewable Energy (MCDR) iron ore makes up 70% of the mineral production value. In 2023–2024 iron ore extraction amounted to a volume of 274 million tonnes (MMT).
In the data analysis report found that iron ore production increased from 128 million tons (MMt.), in the half of FY 2023 24 (April September period to 135 MMt in the period of FY 2024 25 showing a substantial growth rate of 5.%0 %. In the field of ferrous metals, like aluminum and copper production saw a slight increase in the first half of the fiscal year 2024–25 (from April to September). Aluminum production rose by 1·2% reaching 20·9 lakh tons compared to 20·66 lakh tons, in the year 2023–24 during the same period while copper production increased by 4·6% climbing from 2·39 lakh tons to 2·5 lakh tons in this timeframe.
During the year leading up, to the end of October 2024 there was a coal production of 53745 billion tons recorded indicating growth compared to the year 2023 to 2024, with an increase of 610 percent.
In October 2024 there was a rise, in coal shipments totaling 82. 89 Million metric tons. This marked a 4. 60 Percent increase from the 79. 25 Million metric tons recorded in October 2023. Additionally coal deliveries from sources also experienced growth reaching 16. 18 Million metric tons in October 2024 compared to 11.83 million tons in October 2023 reflecting an increase of 36.83 percent.
