Letter to the editor: Wind farm's impact on fishermen
Might the planned wind farm affect the incomes of fishermen?
An extensive piece was published in The Times Record on October 29th regarding the proposed wind farms in Casco Bay as reported by the Portland Press Herald. The article contained a brief quote attributed to the New England Stewardship Association expressing concerns that the wind farm could pose a threat, to mariners (fishermen) and the marine environment. Furthermore this year has seen a journal examining various studies on the impacts of high voltage electrical lines connecting each windmill to the shore. According to their findings these farms and the high voltage lines they entail could lead to " changes in various developmental processes" that impact the lifecycle of fish, lobsters and clams in the area concerned. The officials representing our state well as the U.S., including senators and representatives should take action and insist that this project is put on hold until thorough studies are conducted to guarantee that the fishing community, in Maine is not harmed in any way.
