Mitsotakis: The personal doctor initiative must cover the entire Greek population
"The Parliament might look a bit different now due to shifts in the leading opposition party; however the proposed legislation being debated signifies a consistent effort to enhance public health through three key objectives. Comprehensive prevention measures and the reorganization of primary healthcare services alongside the refurbishment of 93 hospitals and 156 health centers " shared Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during Tuesdays session, in Parliament. The prime minister delivered a speech at the session discussing the proposed legislation "Enhancing the Role of Personal Physicians. Setting Up University Health Centers and Additional Regulations, by the Ministry of Health."
He stressed that this was an initiative by saying that "This plan is unlike anything we've seen before in the history of our healthcare system; as such it demands patience and unwavering dedication to see it through, to completion every single day."
He also mentioned the significance of taking action to address issues and mentioned the recent regulations that prioritize the role of individuals personal doctors in government policies—a development that arrived in our country belatedly due to underestimation, from both healthcare professionals and the public.
However Mitsotakis emphasized the significance of having a physician as a crucial aspect of healthcare. He stressed that it offers access, to quality health monitoring at no cost.
"He mentioned that the main physician will be responsible, for keeping track of and maintaining the medical file that we will all eventually have."
The prime minister stressed the importance of reaching all citizens and highlighted the significance of prevention efforts in healthcare."This marks a step in implementing a comprehensive prevention and public health initiative for the first time, in our nation " he remarked, underscoring the positive outcomes this reform has already delivered.
"We are implementing an overhaul of the afternoon surgery schedule " Mitsotakis stated. He also mentioned that "We are all set to kick off the 37 000 surgeries funded by the Recovery Fund starting November 28."
He also mentioned the construction of three advanced hospitals in Thessaloniki, Komotini and Sparta and highlighted the ongoing modernization efforts, in various sections of other hospital buildings.
"He emphasized that the important asset of our national healthcare system is its dedicated staff. Including doctors and nurses. Who have been recruited steadily over the past five years." He elaborated on the recruitment efforts, with plans to hire 10 000 more personnel by 2027; specifically highlighting that 2000 of them will be allocated to primary care services.
