Biden Authorizes Anti-Personnel Mines for Ukraine’s Defense
Media reports indicate that President Biden has given the light for the provision of anti personnel mines, to Ukraine.
This action is intended to bolster Kyivs defenses against the advancing troops.
President Joe Biden gave the light for sending non persistent anti personnel mines to Ukraine as reported by The Washington Post last Tuesday (November 19). This move comes after the White House permitted Ukraine to deploy range ATACMS missiles in Russian territories according to a source cited by the publication.
As per the information provided by the source mentioned on in this context suggests that these mines are designated for use solely, within the borders of Ukraine and are anticipated to be primarily concentrated in the eastern region of the country.
The Purpose of Anti-Personnel Mines in Ukraine’s Defense Strategy
Kyiv has been requesting these resources following Russias invasion and the placement of anti personnel mines, on the front lines to impede Ukraines endeavors to regain control of its land.
In 2022 the United States possessed, around 3 million personnel mines in its arsenal as reported by the U.S State Department in a statement published that year.The deployment of these mines has been limited since the Gulf War in 1991 with a case occurring in Afghanistan where just one munition was used back in 2002.
The Biden administration has also revealed intentions to seek assistance for Ukraine, from Congress.
