Kremlin Spokesman: President Putin Grants Asylum to Bashar al-Assad and His Family
Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to grant political asylum to former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his family, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, as reported by TASS.
Why Did Bashar al-Assad Resign from the Presidency?
"Naturally, such decisions cannot be made without the head of state. It is his decision," Peskov stated.
On December 8, Assad stepped down from the Syrian presidency and left the country. It was later confirmed that Moscow had granted him asylum. The former Syrian leader and his family are currently residing in Moscow.
