Davenport awards sixth round of DREAM home improvement grants
About 30 more Davenport homeowners have been awarded funding to help with a home-improvement project as part of Davenport's DREAM project, according to the city.
The program provides grants of up to $20,000 to current and new homeowners in south-central and west Davenport to help spruce up the homes in the oldest and historically under-invested parts of the city.
2024 is the program's sixth year. The city received 141 applications for $900,000 of available funding. The city has tentatively approved 24 projects for current homeowners and six new homeowner projects.
Recipients will be contacted by city staff for initial consultation on their projects.
There is still money remaining for four new homeowner projects, according to the city. Applications are still being accepted for homeowners who have closed on a home in the past 45 business days in a Davenport DREAM neighborhood.

Since 2019, Davenport DREAM has awarded close to $5.9 million to 252 properties in the city.
"When one person invests in their home, it has a ripple effect through the entire neighborhood," Davenport Community and Economic Development Director Bruce Berger said in a prepared news release. "We've seen how a new fence or a fresh coat of paint impacts the way people feel about their homes."
Grants are forgiven over five years. To be eligible, the property must be owner-occupied during that time.
For current homeowners, grants can be used for façade improvements. Applications are scored giving preference to exterior façade improvements and code violations, according to the city's website.
For new homeowners, the funds can be used for any improvements, but will assist with needed exterior improvements first.
