No New Year's Eve fireworks show in Vancouver to ring in 2025 | Events
In case you're wondering, no New Year's Eve fireworks are planned for downtown Vancouver to ring in 2025.
This has been the case for several years now.
Prior to the pandemic, an annual New Year's Eve fireworks spectacular drew upwards of over 100,000 spectators to the area in and around Coal Harbour in downtown Vancouver. There was also a subsequent plan to relocate the show to East False Creek near Science World.
But the event has gone dark for several years now due to the non-profit organization's challenges with securing sufficient sponsorship amid escalating costs following the pandemic.

"This decision has not been made lightly, and we understand the disappointment this may bring to the community. The unfortunate cancellation is due to escalating costs and the highly challenging sponsorship market amidst the current economic conditions," reads the statement by organizers last year.
Coming out of the pandemic, many events in the province have financially struggled from the substantially higher costs and the poor local sponsorship market.
Concord Pacific, the New Year's Eve Vancouver fireworks event's previous title sponsor, offered more funding for the event in 2023, but it was still far from sufficient to cover costs.
"We are sad to hear that it couldn't come together. It's an expensive endeavour and a mountain of work for the Society. We offered to double our commitment from the last year it ran, but that doesn't even cover half the costs," reads a statement by Concord Pacific last year.
Although no fireworks are planned for downtown Vancouver, large crowds are still expected to descend onto areas such as the Granville Entertainment District and around the Gastown Steam Clock for an impromptu countdown to midnight. Expect a major Vancouver Police presence.
The closest New Year's Eve fireworks experiences tonight are at Grouse Mountain and Cypress Mountain, as well as the Space Needle in Seattle.
