The crash is the latest in a series of aviation accidents over the last month.

More than a dozen people were hurt on Monday when a Delta Air Lines flight crashed in Canada while landing during difficult weather conditions.

Eighteen of the 80 people on board -- 76 passengers and four crew members -- were injured when the CRJ-900 aircraft flipped over at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), the company said in a statement.

The incoming flight from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) was landing when it encountered "strong winds and drifting snow," The New York Times reported.

At least one of the passengers who was injured was listed in critical condition.

"The hearts of the entire global Delta family are with those affected by today's incident at Toronto-Pearson International Airport," said Delta CEO Ed Bastian. "I want to express my thanks to the many Delta and Endeavor team members and the first responders on site."

The flight was operated by Endeavor Air, which the company noted is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy said in a statement that investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration were already en route to Toronto.

"The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will lead the investigation," he said.

He added, "I've been in touch with my counterpart in Canada to offer assistance and help with the investigation."

Fire crews were on scene extinguishing a fire that broke out from the accident and video captured passengers climbing out of the plane.
