BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Excitement is in the air as a new tradition takes root in Brunswick County.

Stump Hill Farms in the Ash community will host the first-ever Brunswick County Agricultural Fair and Expo this October.

It will feature more than 20 amusement park rides, live music and performances, vendors, and livestock exhibitions.

Bringing the county's first fair to life is a momentous occasion for fair manager Kyle Bridgers.

"It means everything. it's the only one," Bridgers said. "You've got to give the kids for tomorrow something to look forward to and we're gonna try to pass this down generation after generations for the future."

4H programs operated by county cooperative extension offices and school districts in the Cape Fear region have been invited to participate.

Fair Vice President Allyson Hardee Newcomb said the fair isn't just about entertainment, it's also educational.

"A lot of kids, a lot of younger people just don't understand what it takes for agriculture, you know," Hardee Newcomb said. "Where does your food come from, how is it grown? The things that go into play for that and so we just realized you know what we have an opportunity to do that."

For Hardee Newcomb, this event is deeply personal.

The fair will be held on land she grew up watching her family farm.

"I grew up watching my great grandfather farm this and now it's going to bring joy to so many people in the community and surrounding areas as well as just help bring them back in touch to what agriculture does for them and their families, even if they don't realize it."
