Some staff believe this has been brought in to cut pay hikes, the report said

In a first, LTIMindtree Ltd has asked its top managers to clear a competency exam under the firm's annual appraisal exercise, a report by Mint said.

This is possibly the first such case in the country's IT industry, the newspaper said.

As part of its appraisal process, half of the weightage for project leads, managers and lead architects is given to the competition of the projects and the other half to an exam with multiple choice questions on coding and maths, the report said.

This was introduced last year as part of "My Career My Growth" framework for top officials and this year it has been further expanded to include more employees, Mint said citing sources.

However, some staff believe this has been brought in to cut pay hikes, the report added.

Moneycontrol could not independently verify the report.

Last month, the company reported a 7.1 percent decline in net profit at Rs 1,086 crore in the December 31 ended quarter, compared to Rs 1,169 crore in the year-ago period.

This comes amid a seasonally weak quarter for the IT sector due to holidays and higher furloughs in core markets like North America.

The revenue from operations rose 7.1 percent year-over-year to Rs 9,660 crore in the third quarter.
