Prayagraj: The flower market in trans-Yamuna area of the city has seen a significant rise in business with the setting up of thousands of tents by seers, saints, and religious organizations on the banks of the Ganga ahead of the Maha Kumbh. As Akharas and other religious figures have begun installing flags (Dharam Dhawaj) and carrying out spiritual activities, the demand for flowers like roses and marigolds has increased drastically.

Flower growers report a good harvest of roses and marigolds this season, and farmers are optimistic about receiving high prices for their produce. Traders in Naini, Rambagh, and Phaphamau stated, "Apart from having plentiful cultivation of roses, we would be bringing marigolds (genda) from Kanpur and Varanasi when required. Besides, traders would also order white and yellow chrysanthemums (guldaudi) from Jabalpur and Nagpur."

Despite the plentiful supply, traders acknowledge that prices of marigolds, guldaudi, and roses are expected to rise due to the increased demand during the Maha Kumbh. Rajesh, a flower seller, noted, "The rates are expected to climb manifold during all six main snan days in Kumbh."

During the Kumbh Mela, devotees typically offer marigolds during prayers at the Ganga, while roses are used for meetings with sadhus and mahants. Flowers are being sold per kilogram, and prices are fluctuating daily. "The prices of roses and marigolds will shoot up as the Maha Kumbh approaches," added Rajesh, predicting higher prices over the next two months.
