Disruptive storm slides into Atlantic Canada with heavy snow

Across Atlantic Canada, get ready for a rough morning commute as there is expecting to be a period of heavy snow Sunday into Monday.

Through Sunday night into Monday, a combination of hefty amounts of snow, blustery wind gusts and soaking rains are likely across the Maritimes and parts of Newfoundland.

If you have to head out during or after the storm, keep an eye on road conditions and stay up to date with the latest warnings in your area. Prepare for deteriorating road conditions Sunday night into Monday.

A large winter storm will bring heavy snow and accumulate 15-25 cm of snow in central and northern New Brunswick, including Fredericton, and in the Gaspe Peninsula.

In this system, western P.E.I. is in line to see hefty snow totals, while the eastern half of the island may see just a dusting, as it sits right on the line between rain and snow.

From this system, 10-15+ cm of accumulation is forecast for portions of eastern Quebec, for communities east of Sherbrooke.

Near the Bay of Fundy, a sharp cutoff in snowfall totals will result from mild temperatures colliding with cold air. However, in the Maritimes, wind converging near shorelines could increase snowfall accumulations.

In the Maritimes, reduced visibility during moderate to heavy snowfall may result from wind gusts of 50+ km/h.

A significant cooldown will follow this latter system as the polar vortex begins to be felt across the region.
