Trump imposes tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China, raising prospect of inflation and trade conflict

February 1st, 2025
PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- On Saturday, President Donald Trump signed an order to impose steep tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, and China, achieving one of his post-campaign promises to voters at the potential cost of raising prices and disrupting businesses across North America.
Trump's order also includes a provision for steadily increasing the rates should the countries counter the U.S., as they are reportedly planning to do.
