The Paris Air Show began with Saudi Arabia and Poland placing multibillion-dollar aircraft orders to Airbus while France and Israel experienced a diplomatic dispute that overshadowed the event.

The European aerospace company started strong despite predictions that this year's air show would feature reduced commercial activity. The commercial activity at the event has decreased because of the Air India Boeing 787 crash and Boeing's successful sales performance during President Trump's Middle East visit.

The Israeli defense ministry expressed outrage about France's decision to shut down Israeli stands displaying offensive weapons which they deemed "outrageous and unprecedented." The show organizers enforced the ban after Israeli companies refused to follow France's policy against displaying attack weapons.

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders from the U.S. labeled France's actions as "absurd." Prime Minister Francois Bayrou supported the decision because France needed to protect its diplomatic position especially regarding Gaza. The Israeli companies would be allowed to resume their exhibit displays if they followed the exhibition rules according to Bayrou.

The commercial aviation segment of the show remains less active but defense system interest continues to grow because of increasing global tensions and European military spending initiatives.
