Deezer will start labeling music produced by artificial intelligence to fight against the increasing fraudulent activities on its platform according to the French streaming company on Friday.

The Paris-based firm will display on-screen labels that notify users about AI-generated content as part of its initiative to maintain transparency and protect human artist royalties. Listeners will encounter warnings when they listen to albums that contain tracks produced by song generators.

The initiative by Deezer demonstrates how the company views the "industry-wide issue" despite Spotify, Apple and Amazon controlling the majority of the streaming market. CEO Alexis Lanternier stated that the company remains committed to protecting artists and songwriters from copyright issues caused by generative AI tools.

The move comes after widespread concerns about AI systems that extract online content including text images and audio for training purposes without paying any compensation. The number of worldwide lawsuits against these practices continues to rise.

The growing popularity of AI music production has forced streaming platforms to develop methods for identifying human-made content from artificial creations. The labeling system implemented by Deezer represents one of the first major music service initiatives to provide users with information about song origins.
