EA leads wild species plantation campaign in South Sharqiyah

Muscat - Environment Authority (EA) in South Sharqiyah conducted a campaign to plant wild plants in the Al Ghaynah area of Jalan Bani bu Hassan. The initiative resulted in the planting of more than 1,600 plants covering an area of 20,000sqm, with technical support from Al Saleel Natural Park.
The campaign was part of a national initiative to plant 10mn indigenous trees to promote environmental sustainability and strengthen Oman's green cover.
More than 70 volunteers, along with specialists from the authority and the municipality departments of Jalan Bani bu Hassan and Jalan Bani bu Ali, took part. By focusing on cultivating local flora, the campaign aims to combat desertification, preserve biodiversity and help achieve ecological balance.
Nizar bin Salem al Araimi, Director of the Environment Department in South Sharqiyah, said regular planting campaigns are vital to enhancing natural vegetation cover and reducing the effects of climate change. He also praised the participation of the local community as a key factor in the success of the campaign.
Araimi further stressed the need to expand the scope of participation to include various government and private sectors to secure a sustainable environment for current and future generations.
