Economic Anxiety Delays Life Plans Under Trump

The Guardian-Harris poll shows that sixty percent of Americans delay their major life choices including marriage and childbearing and home purchasing because of economic stress during Trump's first presidential months. The combination of high home prices from pandemic-era buying activity and 6.7% mortgage rates makes homebuying unaffordable for 75% of potential homebuyers. The economic uncertainty makes 32% of people planning to have children in 2025 feel unable to afford it and 33% of them feel uneasy about the economy. The economic burden affects Gen Z and millennials most because 68% of these young renters plan to purchase homes but only 29% of older renters do. The rising cost of living affects 78% of people who notice higher grocery prices and 60% of people who see price increases in essential items. The economic situation appears to worsen according to 48% of Republicans but they disagree with this assessment since only 33% believe the economy is deteriorating compared to 67% who held this view last May under Biden. The economic outlook has deteriorated according to 59% of Democrats and 64% of independents. The financial concerns of 29% of people about tariffs stand as their primary worry for 2025. The economic pressures against Trump's growth agenda have made his proposed $5,000 "baby bonus" and other policies unpopular among the public.
