Meta Launches Standalone AI Assistant App to Rival OpenAI, Google

Meta Platforms launched its standalone Meta AI assistant application on Tuesday which deepens its competition against OpenAI and Google. The app uses Meta’s Llama 4 model to deliver personalized responses which connect to user information from Facebook and Instagram platforms thus differentiating it from its built-in functionality on WhatsApp and Messenger. The new development demonstrates CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s initiative to enhance Meta’s position in the AI market.
The new app joins Meta’s AI glasses and companion app to compete against OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini by providing improved reasoning and multilingual functionality. The company held its inaugural LlamaCon event on Tuesday to showcase its AI progress. The advanced chatbot versions will enter Q2 paid subscription testing but Reuters predicts substantial revenue will not appear until 2026.
The upcoming Q1 earnings report from Meta will demonstrate how AI technology has increased advertising revenue. The standalone application seeks to increase user interaction while competing against numerous AI solutions that require strong personalization and integration capabilities. Through its forceful AI approach Meta seeks to become a major industry player while using its extensive social media network.
