Patricio Hernández has stepped back into the role of CEO at Chile’s Megamedia following the unexpected departure of Villanueva.

Dr. Patricio Hernández has returned to the position of CEO of Chile’s Megamedia after the departure of Javier Villanueva. Hernández took over the management of the media group on March 18, 2024, having served the first time as the head of the company from 2013 to 2021. The board of directors of the Mega’s parent company has agreed to Hernández’s appointment. He was appointed to head Global Content (previously known as Mega Studios), a new subsidiary of the company that is dedicated to creating content for international audiences when he joined the company in November 2024. The company welcomed his return as the beginning of 'a new growth chapter' and the beginning of the company's plans to put Chile's largest media group on the international map. On March 9, the media reported that Villanueva had been fired, but the board did not explain why. Reports indicate that the move was made after unexpected changes in the staffing of the channel which caused ‘surprise and frustration’. The former programming and content director, Patricia Bazán, who had left her post in September but stayed on the board, was acting as interim CEO for a short time. Hernández is a journalist with nearly 40 years of experience. He launched CNN Chile in 2008 and was the programming director of Canal 13 on two different occasions (2003-07 and 2010-13). He was the CEO of Megamedia from December 2013 and maintained the broadcaster's lead in the ratings for eight years, and in 2014, he introduced Turkish dramas to Latin America for the first time. After leaving in 2021, he took over at Latina TV in Peru and oversaw the company's digital transition and the establishment of an international production center for reality shows and telenovelas for nearly four years. Since he came back to Megamedia in November 2024, Hernández has been responsible for developing Global Content as a significant player in international production. The Bethia Group's owned conglomerate's offerings include broadcast channels Mega and Mega2, pay TV stations MegaFicción and ETC, six radio stations, content distributor MGE (Mega Global Entertainment), the production arm Mega Studios, the streaming service Mega Go, and a digital network that includes FAST channels.
