We hear so many stories about criminals trying to break the law in Texas but most times law enforcement catches on and holds those criminals accountable for their actions.

According to KXAN, Manuel Perez Jr. A former U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officer was charged with multiple counts of violating immigration and drug laws and has entered a plea of not guilty.

The indictment against Perez alleges he used his position as a CBP officer at the Paso del Norte Port of Entry in Downtown El Paso to allow foreign nationals into the country.

He is also accused of conspiracy to possess and distribute over 5 kilos of cocaine.

Migrants paid between $9,000 and $16,000 to be smuggled into the U.S. Perez was seen letting a gray Nissan Pathfinder into the country on multiple occasions during a 13-month span in which the investigation was going on.

The cocaine was allegedly planned to be distributed in Texas, Louisiana, and North Carolina.

There are reports that Perez was working for the La Linea cartel in Mexico and received $2,500 for each undocumented person he let into the country.

He is now facing 5 felony charges, and property or cash suspected of coming from the illegal activity could be seized. Perez is now facing up to 10 years in prison if convicted of these crimes.
