Trump and Musk Clash: Tax-Cut Feud Escalates
June 6th, 2025

A White House official has denied that President Donald Trump plans to speak with Elon Musk about their ongoing public dispute over the tax-cut bill proposal. The White House official put an end to speculation about a potential conversation between Trump and Musk on Friday.

The previous official statement about a scheduled call has been disproven by the ongoing social media fight between the former allies. Their relationship started when Musk supported Trump's presidential campaign before he joined the administration to reduce government waste.

The Tesla stock price experienced its biggest one-day decline of 14% on Thursday which resulted in a $150 billion market value loss but recovered during pre-market trading when reports emerged about possible reconciliation. Musk stepped down from his White House advisory position last week before he denounced Trump's tax-and-spending plan as a "disgusting abomination" that would create unmanageable national debt.

The Senate now reviews the House-passed bill which stands as Trump's most important legislative priority. The proposed bill will increase the national debt by $2.4 trillion throughout the next decade based on nonpartisan financial projections. House Speaker Mike Johnson revealed his communication with Musk yet the intense disagreement between these billionaires continues.

Musk's public resistance against the bill creates obstacles for its passage while demonstrating how personal conflicts between leaders can produce new market uncertainties.
