Web3 search engine could redefine the internet’s tomorrow.
April 10th, 2025

The internet exists at a critical threshold right now. The general public has expressed increasing frustration toward the internet during the past twenty years because centralized platforms such as FAANG (Meta, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Alphabet) face criticism for their unclear algorithms alongside their practice of data collection and biased content delivery. The data management system of Web2 giants who operate as advertising platforms and user trackers has generated billions in market capitalization by treating users as their main asset. Such a foundation is not reliable for operating a knowledge engine like the internet. The current arrangement benefits only members of the FAANG club. People are catching on: this setup only really serves the FAANG club.

Search functions as the main entry point of the internet while revealing its major weaknesses. The process of accessing our shared knowledge ends with Google's first result because it receives more than 25% of all user clicks but the tenth result only receives 2.5%. Google lost its 90% market dominance last year but the top search result position delivers quarter traffic to its search empire while blocking competitors from gaining significant ground. The amount of control resting in one company's non-transparent hands reaches an enormous level. The search engines DuckDuckGo and Bing promote their private features and AI capabilities yet function as reduced versions of Google without its extensive influence. Search integrity stands as the most critical factor now that web2 controllers operate solely based on profit because they change their priorities quickly.

Users have a chance to reclaim control through the emergence of web3 technology. A blockchain and smart contract-based decentralized search engine operated by the community could eliminate corporate prejudice to deliver unfiltered fair results. The web3 node-driven structure operates as a trustless and secure system which enables users to manage their data and digital lives. This system operates without profiling and tracking while removing all choke points to ensure privacy-first and censorship-proof and manipulation-resistant functionality. The system provides users with self-sovereignty and asset control as well as staking and peer-to-peer transfers and banking solutions for unbanked individuals.

Today’s search gatekeepers—centralized platforms—pick winners and losers based on profiles and profit. Web3 has the potential to present an uncorrupted ranking process that ignores both user browsing history and corporate financial influence. When AI starts consuming new data the centralized promises about no tracking become obsolete within hours. The built-in design of Web3 functions as a protection mechanism against such betrayal. The transition from password management in web2 to user-controlled encrypted wallets exists as a practical step rather than science fiction. The learning process presents challenges but users gain complete control over their assets and data when they make the switch.
