The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have re-signed American linebacker Tony Jones to a two-year extension, the CFL team revealed on Wednesday.

Jones was set to enter the free agency market in February.

The six-foot-two, 235-pound player from Texas Tech signed as a free agent with the Blue Bombers on June 9 after being released by the Edmonton Elks in the training camp.

He played his first game for the Blue Bombers in July in Saskatchewan as a back up defender and then played the next 11 regular season games as well as the Western Final and Grey Cup at the weak-side and middle linebacker positions.

Jones wrapped up the season with 60 total tackles (49 defense, 11 special teams), one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

He has 116 tackles in 31 games in the CFL with Edmonton Elks and Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
