Apple Taps Tata Group for Indian iPhone Repairs

The Indian market expansion of Apple-Tata Group partnership now includes iPhone and MacBook repair services according to two sources who spoke with Reuters. Tata will take over after-sales repair services for iPhones and MacBooks in India from Wistron ICT Service Management Solutions as part of its existing iPhone assembly operations at three Indian facilities.
The Indian smartphone market which stands as the world's second-largest will have Tata conduct repairs at its Karnataka assembly campus. The Indian smartphone market reached 11 million iPhone sales during the previous year which resulted in Apple capturing 7% market share after starting with only 1% in 2020 according to Counterpoint Research.
The partnership between Apple and Tata Group has reached a new milestone because of this development. Apple plans to introduce refurbished device sales in India through its partnership with Tata according to Prabhu Ram of Cybermedia Research.
Basic repairs at Apple's official service centers in India will continue but complex issues will now be handled by Tata's facility. Wistron's ICT service will maintain its operations for all clients except Apple.
The companies of Apple and Wistron along with Tata failed to provide any statements about the matter. The sources indicate that the takeover process has started.
The U.S. President Donald Trump's China tariff threats have led Apple to relocate its manufacturing operations to India. During his April speech Tim Cook announced that Indian factories would produce all iPhones sold in the U.S. market during this quarter thus demonstrating India's rising position in Apple's worldwide supply chain.
