Taiwan’s president praised the Arizona semiconductor initiative during a meeting with the state’s visiting governor.

In a meeting with Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, Taiwan President William Lai Ching-te called a major Taiwanese semiconductor investment in Arizona the ‘best model’ of creating chip supply chains independent of Chinese manufacturers. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the island's top chipmaker, has made $100 billion investment in building three chip foundries, an R&D centre and two packaging plants in Arizona. This is an addition to the previous $65 billion made towards the setting up of three foundries in the state including one that is currently in use. Both Lai and TSMC pointed out that this vast project was based on customer demand and not on pressure from the Trump administration.
